Deaconess News 1929-1968; 1933-1967

This series comprises issues of Deaconess News from 1929-1968, with the bulk from 1933-1967. The first issue that the ELCA Archives has is November 1929. Because there is no volume or issue number, it is not known if this is the first issue. However, it mentions that the newsletter "will be published monthly." That suggests this is either the first issue or close to it. Later issues say it "is published monthly." In this series, the following dates are missing:Jan.-June, 1930, August, 1930-March, 1931, May, 1931- January, 1932, July-August, 1941, May-June, 1944, August, 1944, May-June, 1947, June-August, 1959, August, 1960, September-October, 1962, January, 1963, Volume 3, issue 3, June, 1965 Of particular interest in these newsletters is information about the many deaconesses who were missionaries and the detailed biographies of deaconesses at their death. Sr. Clara Fremming is named as editor of Deaconess News in the December 1964 issue. This is the only mention of an editor of the periodical in either of its formats. Condition of the materials is good. The records are arranged chronologically.
